Here one iMMa interview from mikafans.net
www.mikafans.net/?p=1522Recently we’ve done an interview with iMMa, Mika’s amazing singer. Read all about it and more after the jump!
When did you first realise you wanted to become a singer?
I realised I wanted to be a singer when I started singing with the English National Opera when I was 13. I never knew I could sing, and my singing teacher said to me, why not try to audition, so I did. And I got in! I fell in love with the stage, backstage, lights, orchestra, I knew I had to be a singer!
You must have had a dream, in which ways did you want to achieve this dream? What did you do to get there and who helped you on the way?
My dream was to become a singer, an artist, a vessel in which to be creative. I started writing songs at 13 on the piano at school, so in my college training I made sure I took classes in which would help me in the future. I studied classical music and rock pop at different colleges. Out of college I would write music with various bands, joined various bands from Ska to a Sri-lankan band to a metal band. I made my life about music and made sure that I was surrounded by creativity. Eventually I found the style that I wanted to pursue.. rock and have stuck with it, although it has naturally progressed and evolved as I have.
My friends and family have been a massive help, my family have been behind me in everything I do and have always had my back. My friends are the same, most of them are musicians or singers so they understand. When I’m frustrated or feeling down I know I can call and they will be a friendly ear.
Do you have any other love, other than music?
Oooo yes!! I love dancing, I always wanted to be a ballet dancer when I was a little girl. I love family, friends, my wee dog and I also enjoy horse riding!! I love reading sci-fi books and watching Studio Ghibli movies!!
You write your own songs, where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration is found from my surroundings and from within. The lyrics I write are generally stories about me or people very close to me. Sometimes it can be very hard to tap into my feelings or feelings to create poetry to music that really tells a story, but with persistence it happens, and then sometimes it just floes like a river!
In 2009 you joined Mika’s band to support him on his tour, how did that come about and what is it like working with an international popstar?
YEAH! My best friend is a musician and he works with someone that works closely with MIKA. MIKA was looking for a quirky singer that could have fun on stage, so my friend dropped my name. MIKA watched me on Youtube and before I knew it I was on a train to perform at Le Grande Journale learning Rain and Golden on the way!
It has been an absolute whirlwind working with MIKA. It has really made me understand how tours work and the amount of work that goes into them! Before joining MIKA’s team, I had only seen what ever was on the TV about him, so when I saw the amount of work he puts in, to the show, lighting, costumes, staging, performance and writing – I was totally bowled over. He is a true artist, he knows everything that is going on, he is nowhere near the pop puppet that so many people may think he is.
Did you expect to get so much attention from Mika’s fans?
MIKA did tell me in my interview that MIKA fans would be interested, but to this extent I had no idea. It is wonderful to get so much support, I feel very lucky.
As a singer you are on the road quite a lot, do you ever get lonely?
I don’t know if lonely is quite the right word as you are constantly surrounded by people, but I really miss my boyfriend, dog, friends and family (not in any particular order). I was very lucky to have Jimmy on the road with me as we have become firm friends and can really make each other laugh.
Is there anything you’d still like to achieve in the coming years?
Yes, I would love to achieve taking my music on the road, doing a small European and UK Tour. I would love to take my music to my Mother Land – Japan too.
Do you have a message to all the fans out there?
Sure, believe in yourself, work hard, if your head gets in the way move it to your heart. Smile, Love and Laugh. X
